A9: Furniture Layout and Space Dimensions

 The following diagrams shows the typical layout for theater, art gallery and bar along with the human dimensions.
Visual field, seating area and standing personal space is also shown.

  1. very worthwhile to become familiar with these issues. The acoustic analysis is revealing I think. It's always a bit surprising to see how relatively shallow the ideal vertical dimension needs to be. Typically high volumes are more comfortable for large assembly spaces. Compare the sectional dimensions of the performance spaces with the lobby circulation areas in the precedent studies. Bars obviously feel better at a more intimate scale, but some variety of space is good as is clear interconnection to the larger circulation areas.

  2. i believe that having identified the emotional context of the site you have potential to manipulate the space in a way that reflects the complexity and range of the site.
    Having an understanding of comfortable sizes provides opportunities to manipulate space to your advantage.
